Neighborhood FeatureHome of the Week: Mercer Island Real Estate That Plays as Hard as It Works

Welcome to Home of the Week, a recurring neighborhood feature. Each week I spotlight an interesting home in the area and share what makes it, and its Mercerwood Drive setting, special. This week it is a home set up like a mini Disneyland where all the kids come to play.
The moment I walked up the path of this Mercerwood Drive home I knew it would turn heads. In today's Mercer Island real estate market, the homes that get the most love are the ones whose rooms actually get used, and this house delivers. It is set up like a mini Disneyland where all the kids come to play, with a welcome that extends to every generation who steps through the door.
From the street, skylights and walls of glass catch the light before you reach the door. Step into the entry and the living room greets you, sunlight bouncing off every surface and the Cascades peeking back through the windows. The dining room sits right beside it, while the kitchen opens to both and flows straight out to the entertainment deck.
The kitchen sits at the heart of the open plan, bright from skylights above and easy to cook in no matter who is gathered around. From here the whole main floor connects, which is exactly how everyday living should feel.
The primary suite is oversized, with its own skylights and a private balcony facing the Bellevue skyline. A sliding barn door tucks away the primary bathroom and walk-in closet. Two more bedrooms complete the main level.
The sliding barn door makes the primary bath and walk-in closet disappear when you are not using them, keeping the suite feeling calm and open. It is the kind of thoughtful detail you notice the longer you stay.
Downstairs keeps going: a family room built for movie nights, a second kitchen ready for guests or extended family, and a playroom with a climbing wall, monkey bars, a hanging punching bag, and built-in shelves with a desk nook. This lower level could even work as a guest suite, a home office, or a rental space.
This playroom is where the mini Disneyland feeling comes alive. A climbing wall, monkey bars, and a hanging punching bag give energy a place to go, while the built-in shelves and desk nook keep schoolwork and toys within reach. It is a room built for growing, and it welcomes all ages.
Outside, the deck overlooks a private, fenced, grassy backyard with mature trees, gardens, and fruit trees. It is the kind of yard where summer evenings and weekend mornings happen, quiet enough to feel private and open enough to bring everyone together.
From the deck you look out over mature trees and rooftops as the light fades, a view that tucks you in at the end of a busy day. It is easy to picture a house full of people, then a quiet seat outside with the evening sky.
A note on where I come in. This home is not my listing, so I want to be clear about what I can help with. As someone rooted on Mercer Island since 1977, I know Mercerwood and the wider Mercer Island real estate market inside out. If this home has you thinking about what your own skylit living room, playroom, or that perfect backyard could look like, I would love to talk it through with you.
